putting the fus in fus ro dah

Today I played Skyrim. Oh first I got up and had breakfast and sad toodles to Nathan. I applied for some more jobs (still haven't heard back from any jobs!). The process is becoming easier, I'd just like to get to the interview stage with someone. Come oooon!

It was a very warm day. I stayed inside, which despite not having many windows still got really warm. The fan is going now, circulating the air and whatnot. It is supposed to get into the high 80's tomorrow, but I'll be in San Francisco for the day and night, so who knows what the weather will be (well, the internet says high 70s).

So I continued with my job hunt and played some Skyrim. Good day.

Nathan came home at 11pm, after working very hard! He says that these are the more easy going days, and soon he will be staying till 2am. That is what he gets for following his dreams.

oh this job is perfect, HIRE ME!

‎I noticed in your job posting that this is a job that wears many hats, and thankfully I am someone who is enthusiastic about millinery.

Today I went with a more humorous approach to cover letters, well, I was humorous with ONE cover letter. Ha. Anyhoo, applied to four more jobs. Haven't heard back from the remaining four UI jobs. So either that is really good because they are looking over my application, or I didn't meet the minimum to warrant a response? Ahh oh well. One of the jobs needed some overhauling of my resume and a sweet cover letter, so that took time. Editing resumes in InDesign is so easy. So glad I switched out of Word for my editing.

But yeah, applied for some jobs and got better at cover letters, and didn't panic or freak out! That is what I call an improvement.

Had a sandwich, and some toast, and tea, and then pasta and sauce for dinner. Nate came home early (9pmish) so we watched some Breaking Bad and went grocery shopping. Yup.

Hopefully I'll learn some positive things back tomorrow from jobs, and anyhoo, I'll just keep applying. Yup yup!

follow your feet

I texted Nathan to send me sandwich shop suggestions in Monterey, and he obliged with three different suggestions. I went with London Bridge Pub. Interesting these little decisions that get made, who knows how they'll effect the rest of our lives? Not saying anything major went down at the Pub, just that we don't know what is major until later. Maybe I should have picked a different sandwich place? Though I did quite enjoy my fish & chips, and my couple pints of Guiness. The bartender, Matt, was cute and chatty. This old dude Gary was interesting as well. I filled a couple pages in my sketchbook with drawings. It is nice to just...relax. Today was all about relaxing, but more importantly going somewhere new and relaxing there. And going to a BEACH and relaxing.

After breakfast, and replying to the rejection emails with a nice "thank you for considering me", I planned out a rough itinerary for the day. Found an address to plug into the GPS for Santa Cruz (the Lighthouse Field State Park). From there I would go to Monterey, and if I had time: Carmel. I ate some more breakfast, which I guess could be, by 1pm, considered lunch. Theeen I headed out.

It was a beautiful day for a drive. Warm, sunny, and just lovely. The roads were winding, but the Prius handled them with gusto. Santa Cruz is farther from Redwood City than I initially thought. Still, a reasonable distance for a day trip.

Parked at Lighthouse Field State Park, in Santa Cruz. I clambered down to the beach and wiggled my toes in the sand and water, the popped a squat on a rock and got to drawing. There were some young surfers, and some old ones, and they were all quite wonderful! I drew the beach, and I doodled the surfers wiping out, and I drew the surfers paddling, and I drew more of the beach, and all was wonderful. I walked back up the bank, and wandered down the beach a bit. Sat on a small cliff top and drew the surfers from another point of view. Then I found my way down to the beach, and walked in the surf down a ways. There were lots of cute doggies frolicking. I caught some sun, but don't feel burnt. It was a hot day, but not melting.

I texted Nate for sandwich place recommendations in Monterery, and once I got some suggestions, I put one into the GPS and off I went! Hit some traffic getting out of Santa Cruz, but it opened up. I paid for parking on Fishermen's Wharf in Monterey, and went to the pub on the waterfront. I sat at the bar, with my back to the water, and ordered some fish & chips. I thought about going outside, but I struck up some conversations, and it was nice to talk to people, so I stayed where I was. Talked Monterey and the area and art and sketching and all sorts of things. Twas nice!

I left when the sun was mostly down, and enjoyed the remnants of the orange sky from a view on the beach. Standing in the surf is such a nice experience. I really quite enjoy the atmosphere of Monterey and Santa Cruz. I think I'll look for jobs in that area, moreso than the Bay Area. I like it a bit quiet, I reckon.

It was a nice drive back, if a bit lengthy. Nathan and I watched some Adventure Time and ate Choco Taco. Totally addicted to those ice cream treats. Num nums.

I liked getting out. This weekend, I'll be going to San Francisco and hanging with Carmen and Josh. Fun!

c'mon trill, get it together

3/7 jobs are a no go. Ahh boo. If I can just get to an interview stage, then I think I'd feel better about my qualifications for tech/digital related jobs. If no one wants to even meet with me after taking a gander at my portfolio and resume...errr yeah. I'm awesome, but not their kind of awesome I suppose.

Made a grocery run. Got bread and pasta. Mmm carbohydrates.

I took a walk up and down Jefferson Street. It was a nice day for a walk. I hoped it would clear my head, but it didn't do that at all. Today is another "downer" day.

I have some more potential jobs to apply for, but on a scale from 1-10 in terms of general enthusiasm...I'm about a 2. This whole process just makes me feel awful and depressed. How do so many people manage to get through it?

Went to see Cabin in the Woods. It was awesome. I'm not much for horror, but it wasn't SCARY scary. It was more funny, gory, and interesting plot. Right up my alley for a night like this.

10:36pm and Nate still isn't home. He left a bit late this morning, but still.

Might go to San Francisco for the weekend, or for a bit of the weekend.

Tomorrow I'll take another crack at applying for jobs. I did search for some today, but not many.

Hmmmn...argh.

Digital drawings based on photos from The Sartorialist.

it begins, actually begins

Blogger was getting 503 Errors and wasn't letting me log in, so for a second I thought I was going to go to bed without having to sum up, but never fear for...well obviously that error stopped happening.

Had oatmeal and tea for breakfast, and eggs and bacon for second breakfast. Yum! Did the dishes. My skin is sensitive, but it isn't so bad.

With Nate's proxy help, I wrote up a pretty good cover letter and took the plunge.

I applied to a bunch of User Interface Artist jobs. Some of the companies seem really cool, and there are jobs that I would be good at, if they give me a chance and hire me. Yeaaah! So yeah, applied to jobs! Now I hope they'll be kind to me. Took that step. Whooo!

Had a sandwich.

I livestreamed some digital art in the evening. Now it is beddy time for me.

sun toasted

Mmmm. Cheesecake good! Perfect end to a fun day, filled with activities and outings and a bit too much sun exposure.

At eightish, Nate and I got up and got ready for an afternoon in Aptos, California. I had some toast and tea. Chad and Oleg joined us on the day's adventure. The four of us piled into Nate's Prius and south we went to the Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival Thingy. We picked up a fifth person, another coworker, Allen on the way there. It was a nice drive. The sun was out, but it wasn't hot. The woods were pretty. There was a parking spot right near the entrance, and we grabbed it. Whoo!

I mostly came along just to get out of the house and see some sights. Not so much into mountain bikes. There was a large jump area set up, and a kid run, and a...different kind of run. There was also a ramp and a large inflatable pillow thing that caught people as they jumped the ramps. The vendors didn't have the most exciting of displays. I order a Louisiana hot link hot dog, which had onions and cheese on it. Yum yum! We watched the pump track people go 'round. One had a magnificent moustache. I did pretty good at guessing some of their times. During the break between the pump track competition and the main one, we walked over to a bike shop and Nathan bought a better helmet. His noggin is well protected now. Nate and Chad bought lunch (Oleg, Allen and I ordered at the same time earlier on) and we walked to the top of the main big track to get a good spot for the final show. Allen and I talked about the merits of different places in regards to zombie defense practicality. You know, normal conversation. The main show was pretty awesome. High jumps and really skilled riders. Up they went and did so many tricks. Some wiped out, but no one seemed broken. They did full flips on the bikes. Back flips, spins, that "Superman" trick. It was pretty neat. I stood in the sun for a good long while, and now my arm is pretty pink with a tan line, my neck is pink, as is my face. Not a full burn, just not a good....base either. Hahah. I'll be freckly in no time!

California is quite nice. I want to go to a beach now.

It was a nice drive back, probably because I didn't have to do the driving. Though it wasn't that far in Kitsapian terms of distance to drive. Dropped Allen off, and popped back home to relax. I did some computer stuff and ate an ice cream sandwich and chilled on the patio with the boys. We three (minus Chad) decided to go see a movie, and decided on The Raid: Redemption. Was in the mood for some mindless action, and some good old fashion Thai improbable kick box fighting. It delivered just that, with pretty good production values. Now Nate and I are eating cake and we are going to watch Game of Thrones. Yaaay!
