kathy is the greatest

The new neighbors are loud. Probably just having a moving in party, so I won't make a fuss. But there is a lot of chatter. And they are Ducks fans. Booo Oregon ducks!

I was pretty shocked and horrified this afternoon to find out about the shooting in Arizona. I popped on CSpan and watched it pretty intensely. What is the motivation for such a killing and rampage? It wasn't just the congresswoman, it was a lot of people! I just don't understand.

Early on I invited Rollyn over for dinner and a movie. So that gave me incentive to clean and tidy and do the dishes and all the little things I've been neglecting. He came over at 6ish. We walked over to Trader Joe's to get the taco shells and meat, also grabbed some general groceries. I love being so close to Trader Joe's. Rollyn grated the cheese and I did the meat. Added some of the taco seasoning that Kristen has. Next time I'll add more chili powder. Piled the meat into a bowl, toasted the shells, put the lettuce in a bowl, set out the grated cheese and we plopped down in front of the television to eat and watch Point Break.

Point Break was fantastic. Every bit as good as I wanted and expected it to be. Solid action film. Kathryn Bigelow is such an amazing director. And the part that I assumed was the end was actually the middle, so the second half wasn't spoiled at all. It was an early night for us both so after dishes and some conversation, Rollyn left. I had some ice cream. Now I'm hell bent on getting in bed EARLY.

mads & I

Making a dumb face for the camera. Hahah. Me, not Madeline. Madeline looks nice.

Had a pretty crummy night sleep. My schedule is all out of whack.

Had a massive scramble for breakfast, which sustained me through most of the day with only minor supplements. Showered. Dressed. And before I knew it it was time to head out to see Season of the Witch with Madeline. I was first going to ride my bike down to the Max, but it was a nice enough day so I walked and listened to Game of Thrones on audiobook. It is a good story though it isn't really gripping me just yet. I don't feel attached to any of the characters.

Caught the max right on time. When I got to the theater I decided to get a Regal card. I see enough movies to warrant having one. When Madeline showed up, she realized that she had a flat tire. So I returned my ticket and waited with her while the tires people came to help out. She didn't have a jack or socket wrench in the car, so we couldn't get the flat out, let alone on the car. The guy was nice and filled up all the air in the other tires too, as well as switching out the spare (which wasn't so much nice as what he was paid to do). It was a learning experience. I've never seen a tire changed before. I've had a flat but that was at my graduation and it was more important that I get there instead of learning some life skills (Dad swapped the tire and I drove the Prius to my graduation). Anyway. We then went to the tire store so that it could get looked at. Turned out there was some corrosion in the wheel which was causing a leak, as well as a snow stud had pushed into the tire which made the flat (their was a leaking tire as well). Anyway. That was a neat little experience. We then returned to Lloyd Center. Madeline got some food. And then we watched Season of the Witch.

Which wasn't very good. There could have been some good things, if they went in different directions. Robert Sheehan and Ron Perlman were funny. It should have been a period movie with zombies. It was really obvious that when they first made the movie it was rated R. And then they decided to cut it to make it PG-13 and add in some more scenes to make it longer. It was pretty bad. Idiotic. Still, we had fun laughing at it. We are both major nerds for Sheehan and Perlman.

After the movie we went back to her house and hung out for a few hours. Chatted. All that jazz. Then she drove me home. It was a nice full day. Now I know how to change a tire! Thankfully I don't have a car.

nada nill zip

Managed to not shut my alarm off. Hit the snooze a ton of times though. Still. Didn't fall into a full sleep, which is good.

Made myself a scramble.

Called Madeline. Made plans to see Season of the Witch with her tomorrow (we are suckers for Ron Perlman and Robert Sheehan). Talked for a bit.

Ate a salad.

Started watching Sons of Anarchy season three. Damn good show.

Drew a bunch more portraits.

Didn't do what I oughta. All though I am doing better at likenesses. Already feeling an improvement. Getting into the rhythm of things. Maybe tomorrow I'll do more. I am getting out of the house and across the river, which is good.

dane double feature

Set my alarm this morning, but the act of an alarm going off isn't regularly on my mind so in my distress I shut it off entirely and went back to sleep, instead of hitting the snooze. Hopefully tomorrow I will do better.

I worked on some more portraits while watching Nicolas Winding Refn's Pusher and Pusher II. Danish movies. Great acting from Mads Mikkelsen. Sort of basic plots where nothing goes right because everyone is on drugs. But good direction none the less. It is part of a trilogy.

Did my laundry. Went to Fred Meyers. Mostly to get out of the house and get some fresh air. Feeling a bit cooped up. Got some Qtips and plastic wrap and other bits and bibbles. I considered more about working out, but wasn't proactive.

I've said it before, the problem with nightly blogging is that when one is sedentary you have to fess up to your actions. It should be motivating me to do more, but...ehh. Yeah.

My right calve hurts. Though my shoulders are feeling better.

Drank a bunch of tea, which helped keep the weary tired feeling at bay.

Got a thank you card from ma and pa. Should write mine up. Maybe that will be tomorrows task. Go get some cards and mail them off.

Oh we have neighbors now. The apartment that we share the downstairs floor with finally got bought. I hope they are nice.

School starts in a week and a half, but it feels like forever. My final semester. My final thesis. My life starts. I think I should feel more rising terror....

yeah....uhm

Totally wasting these days. In Portland I have the potential to do a lot, but I do just as much nothing as I did in Seabeck. Maybe I should join that gym I was thinking about a few months ago. Get my treadmill on. Listen to audio books and get fit. Didn't fill my bike tires. Like I said, lazy. Watched the BBC show Zen, only one episode is out. Rufus Sewell is great. It was a nice little drama. Worked on crosswords. Did the dishes. I can be really motivated and work really hard once I get going, getting going is the hard part. Pretty soon I'll be up to my knees in work though.

Planned my birthday party. Pretty much the same plan as last year. Meet early in the night at Blue Moon and then go back to my place for hanging out. I'll make a chili for everyone. A nice warm January chili.

yul & steve

Another glorious day to rest. Kristen was busy rearanging her room, so the apartment was crowded with various kinds of stuff. I had a nice scramble for a late breakfast, and a salad for an early lunch. Took out the trash. Need to fill the tires on my bike. Just remembered I haven't done that in a while. After early dinner I went over to Rollyn's and made popcorn and we watched The Magnificent Seven. Must watch more Steve McQueen movies. He is fantastic. Pretty good western. Need to watch more of them. It was a cold bike ride, but bike riding warms the body up. It's odd, it seems like popcorn always pops the fastest in the pan at my old apartment. Whenever I make it on another stove, it seems to take forever.

Can't really think of anything else that happened. Tomorrow I'll do my tires. I'll probably pull up Martin's email about thinking points on my thesis and think about them. Time to make lists!

inspired by a true story double feature

Ahhh what a great nights rest. Cozy bed. Warm bed. Big bed with bedding that may not have the most grown up of patterns. The familiar rattle of the outdated heating system. Perfect. So yeah, stuck around there till one in the afternoon. No one to judge me or to make jokes. Very nice. Had some nice oatmeal for breakfast. Got another drawing up on my other blog, and got tomorrows post ready. After I'm done blogging, I will draw another portrait. Maybe two. Wind down.

Later in the day I went shopping. Went to William Temple House, but nothing caught my eye (but I didn't look too hard). Then I went to M.A.C. and treated myself to a lip gloss (color: Ornamental) and an eye shadow (color: Embark) with some of my Christmas money. A nice gold red color lipstick, and a rich brown shadow. I like browns. Orangey browns compliment my eye color. Anyway, went back home and put my feet up and then remembered I was hungry, so I went to Trader Joe's to get some food for the fridge. Apples, meat, eggs, bread, pasta sauce. I'm pretty simple when it comes to basic foods. Had myself a microwave meal. Tomorrow I'll make myself a delicious scramble. Yum!

Later on in the day I was feeling bored, so I decided to go see King's Speech. I had a free movie thingy from those Regal Card points. King's Speech was fantastic. Lovely little drama about friendship and responsibility. Colin Firth was fantastic. Geoffrey Rush was fantastic. Helena Bonham Carter was lovely. I almost didn't recognize Guy Pearce. Loved it. I left the theater at 9:30 and saw that The Fighter was playing at 9:35, so I went to the bathroom and just hopped into the theater when the trailers were starting. I know, theater hopping isn't the best thing to do, but eh. I pay to see tons of movies. The Fighter was also a good drama, King's Speech was better but then again I'm more into British accents than Jersey ones. Wahlberg was good, Bale did his usual method acting superbness. It was a good tale of choosing to live your own life. Will I remember it in a few years? Probably not. But good acting, and I appreciated that they showed the boxing matches as if they were televised as opposed to overly composed and set to music movie fights.

Rode home after that. My ears are cold. I'm going to go gnaw on an apple now. Mmm.
