darn! third time this has happened

I don't even have my rug a week and Ibanez has a big, watery puke on it. Karen leant me some cleaning stuff and I think the stain is gone. I just have to take another little looksy at it. In the meanwhile I am keeping all of my stuff out of the living room and closing my door. Annoying cat. He needs his Lindsay and probably some better food.

Helped Jen move today. She lives down in South West Portland, beyond PSU. Karen and I had a few troubles getting there but arrived on time. It is a complicated area to get to but not so bad. Some cute houses, but right near a big road. Decent enough I guess.

We had to bring her stuff out of the basement of her friend Vanessa's house. Wonderful house and really nice friend(she works at Laika, very cool. There were a few heavy boxes that were a massive pain and struggle to get to the car but most of her stuff was in little boxes. With four people and two cars it took under an hour to load em up and move them into her place. We didn't help unpack. Only one trip was needed. It is nice to help friends.

Jen and Vanessa went to Ikea. Karen and I went to the Goose.

I changed into an unsweaty shirt and we met up again to walk along 23rd looking for a wedding present for a friend of hers. We went into Lush which was a high end designed soap and bath place. There was one goopy thing wrapped in seaweed that caught my eye but I am so not the girl for those kinds of soaps. My tub isn't nice enough to warrant a classy bath. Ohh the smell was intense there. We did a little loop of 23rd (we crossed at around Lovejoy or Kearney). We stopped and got some cool drinks and minty chocolate cake at the Rose Bakery. The waitress had really beautiful dreads.

Karen bought a lovely minicake mold for her friend from the first place that we went to. The girl in front of us in line was buying some tool that had to do with Absinthe. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't she not be open about what she was needing the tool for? I thought Absinthe was illegal in America. Maybe it is legal in Portland, along with froofy bath salts.

I cleaned the rug when I got back. It looks okay I guess. Might give it another clean tomorrow, just to be sure.

Tea with J. Lee

Tomorrow morning is Karen and mine's day of rest from exercise. So we are spending it helping Jen movie. Huzzah!

I met up with Jen at Tea Zone for lunch. I flipped through her issue of Juxtapose and we caught up. I had iced tea, she had a flat soda. We both had tasty tasty paninis. Everyone remarks about how long my hair is now. I think it is the longest it has ever been. But anywhoo, the iced tea was nice. It was a perfect warm day. Very bright and snug but not sweltering or melting. After tea we decided to go see Hellboy II.

It was opening day but it was also the 2:00am showing so we had plenty of room and good seats. Three of the previews were for remakes: Death Race, Quarantine(which looks good), and Bangkok Dangerous. Most of them looked plain ridiculous.

Hellboy was fun. While a little ridiculous at time, I enjoyed it. The one liners and jokes were not totally without humor. Guillermo del Toro's creature costumes were superb. That man knows how to make a set and make a monster. This movie will probably age well because of the energy spent into the creation of real things. It went quick. I might see it again on Sunday with Lindsay & co.

Jen is a cool cat.

Lindsay was napping when I got home. She has been working really hard on that backdrop painting. She doesn't want to slow down but she really should for a little moment.

Ibanez really likes to stare at himself in the mirror. He dragged his toy in front of it.

I should get some rest. Big day of heavy lifting and I haven't done any heavy lifting since dragging my suitcase up those stairs in Amsterdam.

run run run

Karen delayed our work out so I slept in to noon and loafed about till our time.

I sweat so much during exercise but I don't want to wash my hair everyday. I didn't today and kept it back. It was just flat but I guess it didn't look too bad. Could have been worse I guess. Listening to music makes it go by really quick. I think I will switch over to an audio book.

After I enjoyed a bath, ate some chicken and cake, and watched a few more episodes of Creature Comforts.

I emailed Rachael and I think my roommate for next year has been confirmed. Her name is Cecine. She has pet snakes.

I went to a reading at my comic shop. It was by the Kids of Widney High, or two of them. Just a little reading. It was nifty. They were playing a show later on but the venue most assuredly was 21+ so I just went home after. Floating World Comics is having a sale but it doesn't have anything that interests me.

Lindsay and I chatted when she got back from painting. She had been doing a backdrop for a show that at any one time will be seen by 3,000 people! How amazing is that? She is doing what she wants to be doing and that is cool.

My friend Jen is in town and will probably need some help moving so I think I will be doing that this weekend. Get out in the sun. Lift some stuff. Build up muscle.

A Minde! Just what I have always wanted!

IKEA!! Oh wow, Ikea is so much fun. I bought a Minde (mirror), a pack of Lingo (magazine holders), an 8-pack of Propp (clothes hangers), a bright orange Saxan and some Ringsjon to go with it (shower curtain and loops), a red and white striped Waldo-esque Sveje (rug), an Elly set (dish towels), a pair of Iris (pot holders), a couple of nice muted green and blue Dinera (bowls), a Magasin set (cutting boards), and a nice new Prompt (cookie sheet). SCORE! And it all came in at $42, can you believe it?

Karen drove. Only about fifteen minutes to get out there. Amazing. It was a nice warm day but I wore pants because I was sure the building would have A/C. We started our venture with lunch: meatballs and potatoes for me, meatballs and fries for her and a slice of moist chocolate cake to share.

We roamed around the second floor looking at the set ups. Their ideas for places with minimals square feet were nice. I think they should have more layout examples for small apartments, perhaps a whole book? I would get that. There were a few people that showed up again and again in the fake photos and we started to make up stories for them.

The second floor proved very fruitful. Beautiful fabrics, every possible type of cup (but not so great in the bowl department), shelving units for every type of thing that could be shelved, and so on. Ikea is wonderful. We were very good about not going overboard because with prices what they were...blimey it would be so easy to pick up lots of little things. I should have brought my camera. I need more shelves but I don't know what set up I will have next semester so I didn't really look at them. Dad could make them better anyway.

There was one child screeching and screeching. Really loud and the parents just looked around, ignoring it.

I've wanted a full length mirror for a while. The Minde was suspiciously affordable. Most of it was odds and ends. A great deal of the pans I have been using are not in good shape (one I think is rusting). They did not have a great selection of pans so I just got the cookie sheet. I need smaller ones with edges. Picked up a shower curtain because the current one isn't in great shape. It is a very bright color that should look good in the bathroom. I need some more color. The rug is nice but I'm not sure how well it fits in the grand scheme of things. I have a lot of cheap stuff that needs some sort of decoration. I have a huge thing of Modge Podge that I should use. Mmm. It will be fun to move things around.

After our shopping and self check out, we sat and ate some frozen yogurt. Mmm. Karen scarfed hers down. I took my time.

Totally exhausted, I took the rest of the day off. I started the day with a vigorous workout with Karen. I was early for once. We listened to Gogol Bordello and got our sweat on.

I've started talking to some of the people on PNCA's homeroom site. Looking into prospective roommates. I think I may have found one.

A view of Ibanez and my Sveje as seen in my new Minde.

heat ladder

Slept in through my work out. Err. Oops. And when I got back tonight it was into quiet hours so I couldn't do that. I didn't want to work out in the middle of the day because..ehh I forget why. Anyway. Need to get into the habit of it. I am doing it for sure tomorrow. And going to Ikea with Karen. Fun fun!

I went to see Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson with Michael. I liked how it focused on his journalism and life. It barely touched on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (it had some bits), which was good in that it was about the man and this man whose work became a movie that was really popular. It truly was about it. I felt that it focused a little too heavily in certain areas of his life. It wasn't evenly paced but still it was fascinating, he was fascinating.

When we got out of the theatre there was a long line waiting for the next showing.

Made myself a big cheese steak for dinner. Delicious. Picked at a chicken for lunch. Need to get some vegetables.

The weather has picked up again. It has been in the 70's and now it is climbing towards the 90's again. I can't go out in that kind of weather!

cat hair everywhere

Worked out this morning. About 30 minutes of assorted amounts of jogging. Got oh so very sweaty. But I did better today than yesterday. I just need to keep at it.

I've been very busy all day. Well mostly busy for part of the day.

Had to return some DVDs and books to the school library. Picked up a new pile of ones to return later. They have an amazing selection during the summer. Someone left one of those reusable bags on my bike. They had left them on all the bikes. What a nice gift. I've been using Lindsay's reusable Trader Joe's bag all this time. Good to have one of my own.

Did some laundry. It is so easy to do it when no one is around to hog the machines.

I watched Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. HORRIBLE. I just hate her work. It is so dull. She depicts Versailles with as much luster as one would a trailer park. She doesn't seem quite sure what way of storytelling and methods to stick to. Sometimes she has modern touches, other it is straightforward. But uhg. And there were about four actually French people in the whole film. I don't care about the characters. I have no sympathy for Antoinette. She just isn't a good directer or writer.

Biking was tough. I'm sore from exercising. But I'm just generally out of shape all around after a month of inactivity.

I cleaned the apartment a little today. Uhhgg. It is so hard to vacuum. It is not good to become so aware of the amount of cat hair embedded in the carpet.

Jim's coming over after work. I got a precooked chicken for us to share. Mmmmm!!

work out buddy

The Goose has fairly decent work out facilities. I think I am going to start taking advantage of them. Karen and I had a little session tonight. I ran on a treadmill for about fifteen minutes. I did other machines for a bit as well. Should start slow. I got all sweaty but I wasn't entirely dead by the end. We are going to try and make a habit out of it. Possibly a daily exercise! We go at it again tomorrow morning.

I went to a coffee shop, ordered my drink(a caramel steamer), and read some of The Raw Shark Texts. HOLY CRAP is that a dense book. I crawl though sentences and claw my way down through the cryptic and imaginative paragraphs. I had to stop when I started getting overwhelmed. Brilliant work there. The back biography of the author says he studied at a fine art school. I can sort of tell from the writing. I can recognize how it is written and how it is visualized based from how I am being taught how to think about the world. It is an interesting work to use to self examine my own education.

My friend Morgan, his favorite movie is American Movie. I rented it from the school library. It is really sad. It is a documentary about this man who is trying to film a no-budget horror movie. The guy is in Milwaukee and enlists help and money from everyone around him. It takes years for him to finish his short film. It is just so sad and a rather perfect description of people. I liked it but I don't think I would watch it again. I can understand why Morgan likes it.
