did what needed to be did

I signed up for an unsubsidized student loan. Just a small one. I think. I followed all the steps till there were no steps left. Now I just have to wait and see. It took some time in doing so, nearly two hours of clicking through and putting in information over and over. In some ways I like doing things on paper because then you know it all went through and you have it all done. I like the confirmation that comes from talking to another person.

Dad woke me up with a call, I think I was a little less grumpy this time. I had to end it when the kitty came out with poo on her cone.

About 3/4 done with my painting. It is so much fun to be productive. I just have to have an idea and the time to sit (and the material to entertain me). Finished season one of Deadwood, and now am about halfway through season two (they are short seasons). They introduce a lot of characters that you know are going to meet a bad end. I love the progression that happened between the two seasons, but I am saddened that I didn't get to see more of Alma and Seth's relationship. Well, I have a season and a half left so maybe it starts up again. Anyway, yeah the painting. Really simple, it is more of a shot of the specifics of two characters so I can return to it later for reference. Some parts are looking a little over worked, I just need to sleep on it and return to it tomorrow. I've very pleased with the skin coloring, it is hard for me to do that type of thing from scratch.

So today has been good. I did some important stuff that needed doing and I worked on art. Hurray!

Holly Update!

We took her collar off so that she could run and play a little easier. With the collar she sort of leaps along and has poor coordination. She was beyond enthusiastic. She ran in circles and around the couch and after Ibanez and after her crab toy and up on the couch and around the mirror. Oohh, a little bundle of energy that kitten. She prances and dances and frolics and hops and twists and twirls. One time we rolled a little ball of paper and she pounced and flipped face forward right over onto her back. Ibanez loomed on the table above her the whole time.

Holly gave herself a good clean and I took my eyes off her and by the door, and slightly behind a corner, was Ibanez peeking at her. He stood perfectly still and mostly out of our eye line. Little peeper!

exchange this!

I went to Buffalo Exchange with two bags of clothes. I have a lot of excess and I know I won't really miss it. There were a couple hipster people with lots of clothes in front of me so I set my stuff down and browsed through the jacket. I saw one that, if I got store credit I was totally going to buy. The people working the sell/trade counter were jabbering over generic "in" clothes. One of the sellers had the most heinous pair of "pants" I have ever seen; they were like an ankle length skirt with the bottom sewn together and two little holes were cut on each side for the feet to poke through. It was some weird piece of leg wear with all the thigh airing out that a skirt provides, but none of the embarrassment from a sudden gust of wind. I kind of wanted to confront her about the pants. Just, uhg.

Anyway, it came my turn and the lady behind the counter rifled through my stuff. She went through one bag really quickly and said there was nothing worth buying in there and went through the other and said the same. She only really looked at the pants and barely batted an overly hipster eye at the shirts. That really annoyed me because the people were combing carefully through all the clothes that "hip" people game them. I guess my boot cut jeans and Hawaiian shirt didn't present enough "cred". The clothes I brought in were pronounced way out of fashion and I could either have them back or they would put them in the "donate to charity" bin. I was going to take what didn't sell to Goodwill anyway, and charity is a better option so I went with that.

Two bags, not a single buck made from the lot of it. But they weren't my real clothes, the stuff I do wear I wouldn't sell because, well 1) I wear it and 2) it is too good for the likes of them.

But that experience irked me for the rest of the day. Those pants! No money! Fashionable people who are just all the same!

Only Deadwood, Strangers with Candy, and Project Runway could cure what ailed me. And an egg salad sandwich. And a kitten. And Lindsay and I painting our knees to look like bumblebees because Lindsay's friend Kurt is having knee surgery and we sent him a picture with the tag line "we think your knees are the bees." Yeah, the bees were fun.

I'm up late drawing. DRAWING! It's a miracle!

Holly Update:

Holly looks sort of like a Holly to me, but she also looks like a Powers Boothe. If she were my kitty, I'd probably have named her that. Holly Golightly is also good, but with her feisty demeanour and urge to rampage Ibanez's room, a heavier nickname is also in order. Little PB, Boothey Poo, the Powers that be.

With help from Lindsay, the medicine is getting into her a lot easier. She and Ibanez and getting to be closer and closer. I think they were within 6 inches of each other with no hissing or swearing.

little sassafras

I met up with Michael at the Portland Art Museum. We were only there about an hour as they closed at 5. We checked out the print show downstairs mostly. They had a Rembrandt, several Baskin's, and a Goya. Pretty snazzy. It is nice seeing all the techniques I learned within the work, and it left me a little envious that I could not do a fraction as well. Afterwards we wandered around downtown and sat at Pioneer place a little. In the shade it was a little chilly, but wandering around it was perfect.

I think that tomorrow I will go down to Buffalo Exchange and try and sell some of my old clothes. Make some pennies.

Really liking Deadwood, now that all the characters are established. I sort of want a kitten, just that I could name it Powers Boothe.

Holly Update:

That little kitten is still chasing Ibanez. He is going to smack her one of these days.

This morning was nice. We shared my pillow. She was as snug and as quiet as could be. Really nice. I think she has adjusted to the new living situation pretty well, if only there wasn't that darn other cat.

Her stitches seem to be healing fine. They look a little scabby but I am sure that is normal. Celia called me the next day after I called her to check in on the kittens health.

I bought Ibanez some tuna to make up for the trespasses of the little cone head.

glare down

Finally got some sleep, all though in parts. Dad woke me up with a call. I was a little disjointed so I hope I didn't come off as rude.

I met up with Jen for lunch(but due to both of us sleeping in, it was more of a breakfast). I had fish & chips, she had breaded chicken. I walked there instead of taking my bike. Along the way I went by an old man with an oxygen tank smoking. I got a little lost but we both arrived at the same time.

Jen actually didn't get the job yet, the interview was today. I think it went well. Jen is very charismatic and nice. She talked about how in California most of the retail and store jobs are youngsters and it is really easy to find a job while in Portland those jobs are people making it their part time career, hogging it from all the college students.

She had to go to Tender Loving Empire to drop off her bowling pin for a show there. She is also good at getting into and being a part of shows. I should try to be more like Jen. The shop was nice, lots of local hand printed things. There were free clothes outside but were all far too big for me.

After we killed time in the coffee shop at Borders. We read zines and magazines and talked under our breath about the weird couple nuzzling and making out nearby. They were a strange pair. They read a huge pile of comics but didn't buy a single one.

I hopped on the max and she went to the interview.

Holly Update:

So Ibanez and Holly are slowly getting closer and closer. They had stare downs in Lindsay's room but no attacks. They even laid on the bed together, but not so peacefully. The second attempt at laying together was whens he jumped on the bed again, but in front of him. He hissed at her and she backed up till she slid back off the bed.

Holly was running in mad circles for a minute. Lindsay gave her a stuffed crab to play with. She picks it up in her mouth and flings it about or tries to pick it up with her paws and bring it to her mouth, forgetting about the collar. She forgets about the collar a lot.

She is taking her medicine a little better, but that is only because I wrap her up in a towel (as per Lindsay's suggestion). Make a little kitty burrito.

pink liquid down the gob

Exchanged out a pile of things at the library, as per my Monday schedule. I now have two seasons of Deadwood (they are short seasons), Dogville, Strangers with Candy(the complete series), an illustration book, a packaging design book, and a nature inspired art book. Big big haul and it filled up one of my baskets. Craig was in the library and we talked a little about kittens and summers.

Jen got a job. So I guess it can be done, I just have to apply myself a lot better.

Lindsay came back from her weekend in the woods. She was profusely dirty but it looked like she had fun. Her hands are rubbed a little raw from doing the light show. Ibanez was glad to see her.

I am so exhausted, far more than any reasonable person should be during summer.

Deadwood is interesting thus far. Nice scenery and gruff characters saying oodles of bad words.

Holly Update:

Yeah so I woke up at around 6 am. Noisy kitten. I couldn't get back to sleep so I took a shower and ate some breakfast and called the clinic about getting an appointment. The first time I was put on hold and then disconnected, the second time I got through and they were very kind and made an appointment for me at 9. The clinic is on 14th Avenue, a staggering 2 blocks from where I live.

They were very quick to see me. They asked if it was about taking out her stitches and I said, "She took them out herself." They whisked the tiny black and white into the other room and I had read barely a page when the Vet came in and told me they cleaned the area, it was just the outer stitches (she has three levels of them), they put staples in that will have to be out in 10-14 days, I had to dab the area with a warm wash cloth, and I have to give her antibiotics twice a day.

The first antibiotics went okay. It is a liquid so I don't have to force a pill into her. She darted off and frolicked quite happily. Lindsay helped with the second dose. It didn't go quite as well.

Holly sort of goes after Ibanez. She sort of lunged at him and he fled into his room. I try to find time to cuddle Ibanez as well.

I hope she has settled down a little and I can get a good nights sleep. My faithful readers know that I certainly am keen on partying till midnight and later, so the thought of me desiring to be in bed at a quarter past ten must be outrageous.

poor little badness

I read Karen and Adam some David Sedaris right before bed. He made some supper which I had a small bite of (I have been eating all day). I read Six to Eight Black Men and 21 Down. Karen is almost done with Me Talk Pretty Some Day. She has one story left. I remember going through it quick as well. It is so rereadable. I also grabbed my discounted clothes from her. I owe her $54 dollars for a new pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, and a great sweater. I think it would have been near to $70 without(I wouldn't have gone shopping if that had been the case). Friends with discounts rock! She has other fine qualities as well.

eXistenZ is a silly silly movie. Jude Law is so young and sort of cheesy in it. The twists were a little expected but that might mostly be because there have been so many twist movies in the past decade.

Most of the day was taking it easy and staying inside because...

Holly Update:

...not two minutes after my last post about Holly being fine, she bit out her stitches! She wiggled out of her collar when my back was turned and when I got to her they were gone. I messaged Chelsey about it. There was a brief panic followed by looking closer at her and figuring that it wasn't so bad. She had the stitches for a while, she wasn't really bleeding or in immense pain. It could wait till Monday when I could take the kitty to her vet and get them checked out/re done. Just to be sure I called the cat expert.

Celia was very reassuring about how Holly would be fine. As Chelsey said, she isn't the first kitten to bite out her stitches.

I slept on the floor so that she wouldn't be too noisy in her cage because I was out of sight(I didn't want her running about with freshly removed stitches). I slept like that from 2 to 5, when she was making lots of noise. I let her out in case she needed to use the bathroom. From 5 to 7 I was awake looking at her and keeping her company. Eventually I got to sleep again for a few more hours. From 10:30 to 12:30 we slept together. She was a nice sleeping companion. All in all, it wasn't that great of a sleep. Most of the day was spent with her napping on my bed and me on youtube watching my guilty pleasure(I can't even write it in here I feel so bad about it). I finished Creature Comforts season 1 as well.

Holly seems fine. She drank from the faucet and it was really cute. Her wound doesn't look too bad. Thankfully it was in good enough shape to wait the day out. She has a lot of energy and seems to be doing fine. Ibanez still hates her.

fear factor: cat edition

Worked up a better sweat today. Karen and I hit the town today in our afternoon finest.

First up was Powell's. Karen wanted to get this book about cupcakes (titled 500 Cupcakes). They barely had any Cupcake books but had a whole section devoted to soy/vegan bread making. Well, that's Portland for you. I rounded out my Sedaris collection with some sweet on sale items. On the way to the mall I read out of Me Talk Pretty Some Day. Karen has never read any Sedaris but that has changed as I lent her some. She sent me a message saying that she was loving it. Good for her.

At the food court we got some munchies. My pot stickers are so much better, I seriously need to make another batch.

At Old Navy we investigated jeans and sweaters. They had a beautiful selection of red and white striped stuff (where were they when I was making my Waldo costume?). I tried on two sweaters. One was too sheer, which was disappointing because it was a very cute design. The other was a very radiant Kelly Green that had great stretch and length. I picked up a pair of jeans as per Karen's advice (did you know that pants come in several lengths? I no longer have to walk around with trousers in need of hemming! Also Karen has worked in retail for years and knows her stuff. I trust her opinion and she seems to trust mine). There were also some cute shorts on sale. It will all be on super sale because Karen used her employee discount (she works at Gap but Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Gap are all owned by the same company) for 20% off. Yaay! She rocks.

We parted ways, she to work and me to home. I got some ice cream on the way back. Caramel Turtle, mmmm. Reading Sedaris on the Max Ride made it go by so quick. I love the last couple paragraphs to his story "Baby Einstein".

The rest of the day was spent watching tellie and relaxing with the kitten. Which brings me to...

Holly Update!

She woke me up in the night and we cuddled for a bit before I put her back in the bathroom. She is a little too rambunctious at night, she needs time to adjust. We had a good purr-filled cuddle in the morning. I took off her collar so that she could clean herself. She manically licked all over but when she got to the stitches I put it back on.

She has the major run of the house right now. Ibanez hates her/is afraid of her. He runs into his room when he sees her. I don't like keeping him in his room for so much but he can take it.

Holly seems to be in a better mood. She is very playful and friendly so I guess she is taking the separation fairly well. She isn't all about cuddling with me yet but it has only been one day.

introducing Holly

Jen and I met up to see The Goonies at the Flicks on the Bricks. Last summer I saw Batman with a bunch of people that I don't really hang out with now(we run in different circles). Jen arrived at about 6:30, very early. I met her about fifteen minutes later with pillows and blankets in hand. She had acquired a good spot on the amphitheatre part. Now all we had to do was wait. Her friends Brittany and Tim joined us before it got too crowded. Tim is going to Antarctica for a few months. I told him to look out for Sully, Lindsay's friend that is also going there soon.

The movie didn't start until nine. Until then we shared a large cheese steak sandwich from the cheese steak guy, gabbed about the times, I had a BlueNilla(blue berry/vanilla) flavored ice cream treat, and oodles of popcorn. Some piggy little kids came back with armloads of popcorn.

I haven't seen Goonies in years. I remember it but not in full. I certainly didn't remember a youthful, attractive Josh Brolin in it. It was nice campy fun. This kid a few people away from me was having a riot, the type of riot you couldn't have in a theatre because some one would scowl at you.

I walked Jen to her bus stop. She really needs to get a bike.

Earlier in the day I had a really pathetic workout. I guess I was still exhausted from the many miles I rode yesterday. 20 minutes of weak treadmill total. I broke a sweat but it wasn't much of one.

I cleaned up the place. It doesn't take much to make it look good, just a little tidying.

Holly Update:

I cleaned up the place in preparation for the couple Weeks in which I will be taking care of Chelsey's not-quite-a-kitten, not-quite-a-cat Holly Golightly. At a little after four I went to her place at 19th & Irving to pick up the lovely little thing. It was a slow trek back with all her things. I was sweaty all over again (I always misjudge the weather). I dropped the stuff off and we went to the vet to get her stitches checked out. She just got spayed, poor little thing. Everything was okay. Chelsey gave her some sad last minute loves before she departed. I promised to keep posting an update for her with pictures.

Right now she is wandering about, checking the place out. Ibanez is in his room because he is scared of her. She tried to get up on my window ledge but couldn't quite make it due to her collar. Holly is a sweet little thing.

up hill both ways

I got lots of rest today in preparation for the long trek out to get my Food Handler's permit. I was looking up the place and was horrified that it was out on 34th & Powell. On the East Side. Across the river. And it was sunny today.

So I hydrated, got some directions, and left. It was a quick zoom down to Naito and across the Hawthorne Bridge. The directions said I should take Ross Island but I knew that it was no place for bicycles. It was fine and dandy on Hawthorne Boulevard. I turned on 11th and went along that for quite some distance. Eventually I came to Powell and that is when it first started going wrong. It wasn't bike safe at all. It was a busy road that went under ground. I turned off it, hoping to go parallel but the street I was on was curving off in a very non-Portland way (that is, not on a grid). I turned back towards Powell and went up back towards Division. I turned on Clinton instead, which I remembered from my Map to be very bike safe. It was low traffic and the streets were lined with cute cafes and colorful houses. I found it to be a very nice area with just one problem: heading East was one big steady hill. Up and up I went. 15th became 21st and I still had a ways to go. 26th went by, some better bikers on lighter bikes passed me. The turn on 33rd presented me with yet another incline. Eventually it went down but not soon enough. Getting to Powell was a cinch then. It took me a half an hour of fairly hard bike riding but I made it to the Multnomah County Health Place(not its official name).

I drank lots of water. I asked where the Food Handler's Permit test was and the kind security lady showed me where. I reviewed the test booklet and filled out the form but I had to go to an ATM to get cash. A Plaid Pantry was nearby. I bought some sunflower seeds and an ice cream bar that I gobbled down. The booklet makes the test look like it is harder than it really is. All it takes is common sense. Something I have a little of, I assume. Anyway, passed it no problem and once I felt up to it, I left to return to the Goose and collapse into an afternoon of Carnivale.

I pretty much took the same route home. West on Powell, North on 33rd, West on Clinton, North on 12th, West on Madison, cross the Hawthorne Bridge, West on Main, South on 5th, West on Jefferson, South on 14th, East on Clay, and stop before 16th. Home again home again and sweaty in places that I never knew could sweat.

Can't believe I have one and a half episodes of Carnivale left. The seasons are far too short and I dread the end of this one. I know there are other things I should be doing but my motivation is at a critical low. I haven't been this inactive in years.

caketrastophe

So I called the Heath Department about getting my Food Handler's Permit and I got a message about how they are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Well, it gives me an extra day to study the very obvious material for the test.

Lindsay has started packing her things. Boo! She is leaving just like that. So quick.

I wanted some cake so I whipped out some cake mix. Something happened to it when I tried to make it. The mix includes pudding to make it soft but the pudding seemed to settle upon baking so the bottom was thick and the top part was fluffy and bland. It did not work at all. Had to toss the whole pan's worth.

One thing that irks me about Carnivale is the slow build up. You watch it and it is interesting and then you realize you have about 6 episodes left and then the series is over. Things are slow to happen and the seasons are so short.

The problem with blogging everyday is that you really become aware of how pointless and empty some of your days are.

Stahl-ed

Went to the school ask about some financial aid stuff. The lady who helped me was really tan and had drawn in eyebrows. She was really nice. Afterwards, I loitered in the library. They had Carnivale season 2 in their new DVD section and I snapped it up. I watched the first season ages ago, so excited to watch the new one. It is a supernatural story set in the time of the depression. It's good watching.

I met up with Jim after the library. We chatted over drinks at Urban Grind(the nearby coffee shop). We have both seen Dark Knight twice now. How many movies inspire people to see it repeatedly in only a couple days? It was a great little visit.

Today was cold so I had to wear a sweater. Good old Pacific Northwest summer.

I started watching Carnivale. I'm a little lost because I forgot some of what happened in the season finale but my memory is coming back to me. Karen and I worked out but my stomach wasn't feeling right so I only went for 15 minutes. We chatted over book later in the evening. She has her brand new Ikea bookshelves in. They are marvelous and almost go up to the ceiling.

Tomorrow I am getting back on track for waking up early. Also I plan to see about getting my new food handler's permit. That's my main goal.

many marvelous meatballs

I'm so bad at getting numbers. There was a cool, cute guy in front of me during Dark Knight. We chatted a bit (in a sort of group) about comics and whatnot. And I just said bye after it all. Argh, should have gotten his number!

Karen, Adam, Adam's friend Tony and I saw Dark Knight. It is just as good the second time around, maybe even better. There are some bits that need attention and I was able to give it better this time. Loved seeing the trailers again. There was a guy sitting down from us that was a little tipsy during the movie. He was a little over enthusiastic about moments. Nothing too bad but blimey, it made sense that he was drunk.

Slept in after a restless night. After I showered Karen invited me to a quick trip to Ikea. I'm a sucked for meatballs so off I dashed to the Max. I just barely got on it. There was a moment of panic when I saw that a ticket checker was at one of the stops but he didn't get on the train. They need the ability to buy tickets on the train itself, like the streetcar.

We devoured some food and set off through the store. Karen wanted to buy some Billy, shelves that is. I don't have my receipt with the cool names on it on hand so I can't share the cool Swedish names of the products I acquired. In simple terms I bought a spatula, an orange towel, and a big bag of frozen Ikea meatballs. Yum yum! I wanted some shoe storage things to hang off the door so imagine my shock that Ikea had no such thing. It barely had any storage solutions for doors!

There were ticket checkers on 82nd but they only talked to people who left the train. Guess they grab more people that way.

After the shopping excursion, I went to school to return some library materials and check out some more. Soon they will have Deadwood in their circulation, I can't wait. I bought some cheap folders and folder holding boxes from Office Max. I needed something to put all my various paperwork in. My "piles around my room" method is not so effective. Ibanez really liked the boxes.

I didn't get much time after filing to relax before it was time to leave for the showing. We were first in the theatre and got our pick of the seats. They were pretty great. Cute boy in front of me... Pioneer Place has a very severe slant to it's floor so you never get someone obstructing your view.

Agent Cooper, style icon

I left the house today. Amazing, I know! Had to get some things. Those things were at Powell's. It was crowded but not so bad. It amazes me that people buy baskets full of books. Sure I buy a lot of books but I get them over time. I don't acquire a reading pile all at once. I picked up Interworld by Neil Gaiman, now that it is in paperback.

I also bought an issue of Psychology Today because I like their tidbits and articles. I read a lot of PT in my library days when I would work on processing the magazines. Did you know that, "80 percent of moms over 65 said they have a favorite among their grown children"? It goes on to say that it is okay as long as the children have the preference explained and do not feel that it is unfair. It is a good read. Miles away from the crap that is US Weekly that, through an online registration mishap, comes to our mailbox every Friday (stars are just like us because they prop open doors with their bums, OH MY GOD!). Seriously those celebrity gossip magazines are a blight and should be ended. Think of all the trees that would be saved! I also like the concept art and photography that accompanies the articles in PT, it is a nicely designed magazine all around I think.

Worked out a little longer today. Really no fun without Karen. Hard to keep going after the first length.

Drew a little as well. Just a couple tiny portraits. Didn't watch any movies.

Trader Joe's has some really good pre-made mini tacos. You throw about nine of them on a cookie sheet and 10 minutes later you have a delicious well rounded people. Shame you only get about 3-4 servings out of a box. I'm out now. Dang. As much as I would love to run out and buy more food, I am trying to get through what I currently have. I am buying more than I need and while it isn't spoiling before I get to it, I should really work on what I have. So, more oatmeal, cake, and eggs in the coming days.

I set my alarm to 10:00 so that my body doesn't get too adjusted for sleeping in. Sure I go back to sleep but I think it is enough of an interruption to my overall cycle that it keeps me from staying up till 4:00am. Good idea? Setting the alarm? Yes/no/maybe so?

Averie's birthday is tomorrow. Actually it is today because it is 1:05am. She hits the big Two-Oh. The last of the Pedersen kids in their teens. That Averie, she is a superwoman.

Mom and Rubie's birthdays are nearer to the end of the week. Big month for Birthdays. Celia and I have the winter holidays all to ourselves.

In Bust magazine they have a fashion photo spread inspired by Twin Peaks. I quite like the looks but a whole shoot devoted to an early 90's Pacific Northwest Horror/Mystery David Lynch cancelled too soon television series?

shut in

Karen is visiting Washington this week so I don't have any incentive to get up and work out. I still ran for about 25 minutes but that is shorter than normal.

Sort of a cool day. Almost had to put on long sleeves.

Worked some more on the drawers. I think I'll take a break till next First Thursday rolls around. I have cards left but my selection is not that great.

Watched Helvetica this afternoon. It is a documentary about the type face but it also includes a general discussion about visual art and design in the world. It really goes to show how if people are truly passionate about what they talk about, it isn't boring. A wonderful documentary, I recommend it highly for everyone.

Ibanez was all lovey dovey and whiny at the same time. I think I'll have to find something to do tomorrow to get me out of the apartment.

Drawers (work in progress)

Decoupaged chest of drawers. Made from art show postcards gathered from various First Thursdays.

See also: large quick drawing did on the back of my big blue mess drawing, my lovely book shelf full of great reading(I assume, some of it I haven't gotten to yet), my turban wearing lady lamp, Apples to Apples set(best game ever), the ink box dad built for me, and a drawing of Bigfoot taking a nap under some trees.

smells like glue

The apartment smells of Modge Podge. The Internet was down so I started working on this project I have been delaying for a few months now. I using my old art show cards and decoupaging them onto this old chest of drawers that we found in the free zone. I hope to have it fully covered. I will run out of cards probably with just one side complete but that's okay. Plenty more shows to go and see. I'm liking how it is turning out. Can't wait to work on it some more.

I am still thinking about Dark Knight. It really left me in a daze. All the marketing and tragedy surrounding it, what an epic feeling.

I watched two movies today, both were very grim and wrongly funny. I enjoyed both more than I thought I did. The first was Teeth, a movie about uhm...teeth. If you know the movie I am talking about, yeah. I thought it was paced well and the lead actress was brilliant. Good casting. Some really unfortunate ends. The second movie was Man Bites Dog. A fake documentary. I loved a lot of the technical aspects of it, such as the numerous long takes in which everyone remained flawlessly in character. It was also black and white and didn't look like it was filmed in color and redone in black and white. I am a little disturbed that I enjoyed it so much.

On Monday I am going in to the school to talk to some people and return some stuff. Monday is my official school visit day. Return DVD's and check out some more for the next week. Say hello to people.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog finished up today. It is a three part mini series. I think it is brilliant and lovely and for everybody (not like the movies I watched as well today). It is an experiment in low budget production. I read that it was a response to the writer's strike but I can't confirm that. I think more video things need to be done of this nature (online, any time available, with notable people working). I think the videos are going to be off the web soon so if you are interested in a Superhero/Musical/Vlog/Short Series click HERE. And if they are gone by the time you get to this well...if you get me the DVD(which will surely exist soon)for Christmas I will lend it to you.

FREAKING OUT HERE

(it is 3am and I am overly excited)

Okay. I just got back from Dark Knight. Holy cow. HOLY FREAKING COW SLOWLY COOKED AND SERVED ON FINE CHINA!! I need to digest this. Oh wow. Amazing. And the final bit with Joker? Beautiful. I could not register Heath Ledger through the performance. Perfect. Dang. I need to digest this.

Slept in. Worked out really hard. 18 minutes on the first run with absolutely no pause.

When I got back from it and went on the Internet I found the TV and Film forum I visit in eruption over the WATCHMEN TRAILER. It is beautiful. It, it will be the best possible adaptation I am sure. Karen was over when I first saw it. I was shrieking like a parakeet. I could not believe it. And they showed the trailer with Dark Knight. IT IS HUGE AND BEAUTIFUL.

Karen and I went over to Chelsey's to look at her new place. She has a fabulously sized studio with a separate kitchen area. She can paint it. It has tons of storage. We helped her decide on arranging things such as beds and whatnot. It will be great. Holly is looking cute. I will be looking after her for a couple weeks.

Kristen came over and we went to look at her place, just a couple blocks away (they are in the 19th & Irving area). Hers has an amazing amount of space. Walk through closet, kitchen and breakfast nook separate from the main room. Really cool. The studio I looked at was actually tiny and ridiculous. These girls have luck.

We went to Trader Joe's and because we had perishables and Karen had to go to work, we parted ways. I spent the rest of the day all jittery waiting for 10:45 to roll around. Lindsay and I watched another episode of Flight of the Concords. TRIED to watch some more Dr. Horrible but it didn't flow right. THEN IT WAS TIME TO GOOOOO!!!

Got clean pants on, brushed my hair, grabbed my ticket, and I was out of there!

Andy, this lovely lady whose name I am kicking myself for forgetting, Matt, and Craig had pretty good spots in line. Not really crowded (I suspect most of the main lines were at Pioneer Place) but still worth showing up early for. There was talk of the Watchmen trailer(Andy saved his Watchmen Trailer virginity for the big screen). But ohhh we just could not WAIT. One of the new MFA's, Sidney, was there as well. She is really nice. We got seats near the back. Behind us were some teens and one kid who looked 10. We were sort of going "crap" but once the show started they behaved.

Daniel, his girl, and their friend arrived a little late and had to be in the second row. I went up and talked to them. They said someone put a pig's head in the studio fridge. Glad I didn't have to clean that up. Blimey.

There was a brief little contest or whatever for the people. Nothing big.

The audience was perfect. Dead quiet when it was serious, applause when necessary, cheers, gasps, oh everything. It was BRILLIANT. Now I am going to sleep.

what's in a word

So I've been using the word "evisceral" for a while now. I was just questioned as to it being an actual word. I thought so but when I looked it up it was nowhere to be found. I guess I just combined eviscerate and visceral together to form a new word.

I use it to mean rough, violent, moody, dark, passionate...etc.

that's the ticket

I had a really bad dream last night. Even in the end, I couldn't see what was after me.

My legs hurt something terrible so I didn't run as much as I normally can. Tomorrow I will push myself. But today, ehh not so much.

Martin French was holding a little open drawing session that is normally reserved just for the Illustration majors. Just a few hours with a model. It was fun.

Before it began I sat with Andy and Matt for a bit. Andy informed me that the Dark Knight midnight showing at the Metro was NOT sold out. We talked a little about Europe and summer and all that. They are helping out with the pre-college program that I did a few years back.

For the drawing session we had a model I never had before. Or it was the model I had before and she just changed her hair, I couldn't tell. Either way she was pretty good. I did quick watercolor sketches as she warmed up and when she put on the costume I did colorful depictions of her. I couldn't be bothered to find the right skin tone so I had fun with whatever was on my palette(I just used colors that I normally don't). There were a couple blue for black and orange for everything else drawings, and a couple muddy icky yellow green things that didn't look so great. My last one was simple but I was impressed with myself. I still got it! Now I just need to scan them so I can show people...

Daniel and BT sat on either side of me. Karen and Robin sat together. Charlie was on the other side of the room. There were two ladies I didn't know. Daniel and I talked the talk about comics, Wonderfalls, artists, our upcoming Science F(r)iction class, and about summer. I ooooeh and aahhed a little over BT's lovely viscous red speedball ink. It applied so...thick. Must get me some of that. It went from 1 to 5, it was a nice little session. There will be more.

After I rode so hard to the Metro and got my ticket to see Dark Knight at midnight. I got it! Yeaaah! Andy, Matt, Craig, Craig's girlfriend, Daniel, Daniel's girlfriend, and either Daniel's friend or Daniel's girlfriend's friend are all going to the same showing that night (hopefully in the same theatre at the Metro). It is two separate groups. Hopefully I'll meet up with one of the groups but if not, well I am just one wee girl. I can sit anywhere and enjoy the show.

I ran into Lindsay at Safeway. We watched some Flight of the Concords when we got home and gossipy gossiped about our day.

Daniel does a drawing a day. I should do that. He was impressed that I did a writing blog everyday. It isn't that hard. Not if you don't care about the quality of writing.

Dear sweet Karen sent me this link to an artist who does photos based after children's drawings. It is pretty cool: http://www.yeondoojung.com/artworks_view_wonderland.php?no=88

no snark zone

Mom sent me an awesome list of how to begin a search for a job(though she started it with a snarky comment, tsk tsk mother). I need to start from scratch with my resume. I am using some old template from my high school days and the formatting is all screwed up. Hard to add new bullets and sections and stuff. Yeah, just need to start over, but the one I have is pretty detailed and has good info of the dates that I have worked. I just need to add in my custodian job and add the new Bossman's information. Yeah yeah, I am getting on track! Also need to look up where to get my food handler's permit...and Google says the walk-in tests are in the South East. I shall call them and walk-in and get certified to handle food. Boo-yah.

My legs are really sore from this mornings run. Maybe I am a little dehydrated but I don't think so.

Worked on some drawings in my sketchbook. Character designs and stuff. Working on it...working on it.

So any more job advice? Anybody want to hand me a job?
