shut the [screen] door

The train was late coming in and it rained all the way there and back. Still not a bad rain. We grabbed some bagels and cheese and meat slices and had a late dinner.

It was raining again today but ever so softly, so we ventured out anyway. First stop: Powell's and it's wonderful world of books. It was very crowded, enough so that I started getting anxious. Llyw bought a steampunk book and we waited for the 20 to arrive.

The 20 took us to 28th East Burnside. We walked down from there and found ourselves at the Velveteria. Portland's premier gallery for velvet paintings, and it boasts the largest collection in the United States...or maybe the world. It had some 350 paintings and a great sense of humor. There were some fabulous rancheros and sad clowns a plenty. They had a massive collection of this one guys work, unfortunately I have forgotten his name, anyway they were really amazing paintings. Velvet doesn't seem to last long so one wonders why choose it as a medium. There was also a black light room. It was very cool.

We planned on going to The Screendoor for dinner but that didn't open till 5:30, so we waited an hour or so in a coffee shop. I drew and sipped hot chocolate. We emerged and found a line at the restaurant. Naturally there would be a line, it is a fabulous place. The line was just the people waiting to start, there was no one seated already. The waitstaff were quick to get everyone seated and everything went quite swift. I ordered a lemonade with a little something something in it. We had chicken tenders and sauce for starters. Llyw ordered the jambalaya, I had the pulled pork sandwich. Both were effortlessly delicious. For sure we had left overs. Caught the 20 back no problem.

Our route home took us past the Hybrid Gallery, which is the new PNCA space for installation in the Indigo building. The gallery was open and Liz was there so we popped in and said Hi. Katie's installation was damaged for whatever reason and she showed up while we were there to fix it. Funny how things work out. I shared some of my leftover fries with the poor darling. She got her little piece up and running again.

It had stopped raining for the remainder of our walk home. Taking it easy for the rest of the night. Munching on leftovers and all that. The train departs at noon tomorrow. Weekend went by really fast.
