two projects left

I ate a huge bowl of spaghetti like 2 hours ago and now my stomach is grumbling. No fair!

Math was a quiz in group theory to show us just how little we really got it. Then it was question and answer time about the cube. I was golden but I stuck around.

I redid the transfer for my silkscreen. I taped it together before I applied the oil to make the paper transparent. It worked! The only strange part is barely noticeable. Did the emulsion and exposing part and then it was the last student council.

Elections! Nathan came in as mediator, Carlson is the events promoter, and a couple other people. Karen is club coordinator now. Hurrah! I hoped someone would take it over. It is nice being a part of school but I'm not really an organizer type. Karen would be better suited for it.

Just lolled about till class. Helped Karen with her printing. Well half got in her way, half helped haul around her massive screen.

My critique went well. Minor suggestions were given about making the background hazy and not so textured. Everyone seemed really impressed. Well the people that payed attention did. But it's cool, it is hard enough to keep focus in critiques when there isn't a computer in front of you.

Then I printed! And it went fairly well. Took a while to get the stripes to line up with the image. After I printed my edition I printed up about 35 Lucky Luna posters, which are just the image of Luna on newsprint. Wanted to use up the ink. It worked out well. I don't think it is that remarkable of an image but only critique will tell.

Had a huge bowl of spaghetti and sauce for dinner. Nikki stopped by with pizza to share with Katie. She is due to pop her baby out in a month! And Karen is an aunt now! Babies everywhere!

Watched Life Aquatic. So sad, it gets me every time but such a wonderful movie.

The drunks are outside being insanely loud. A car was honking and they were hollering.

I feel that I should write more but after nearly 2 years of mostly daily writing, it is getting tough to get all the details out of a day that is pretty close to other ones I've had. Do you want more explanation of the screenprinting process? More about how I approach art? My theories? My ideas? Gossip?

another week has sailed by

We had four constructions that took up the whole of class. I got the equilateral, equiangular square while trying to make the triangle. Jen helped me with the triangle. Robin helped me with the octagon. I got the hexagon with Shaun's help. Took a lot of work.

Relaxed in the library. Made some photocopies.

Had another student leadership meeting. We talked about council and the state of things. It was a lot of talking about how to prevent people from attacking us when really a lot of awesome things are happening in the school thanks to Student Council. I got a slice of apple pie and a smoothie for lunch. Mmmm.

I chilled in the library for the rest of the break. Terry, Terry's man, Nathalie, Jen, Karen and I all made a little cohort consuming the couches. Jen and Terry played their cards. Like race card and gender card and location card. I don't know why but it was a jovial little time.

For the first half of digital tools we watched documentaries about current artists who are making it big as illustrators. Sadly most of their advice boiled down to, "I just did what I wanted to do and I got famous. Whooo!!" So I just need to do what I do and get it out there I guess. We worked on another little digital project. Repainting a building from a photo. I am doing it of one of the Belgium comic walls. The one by Herge where the cop is looking through the fence at the two kids. It is neat. It looks good thus far.

Jen and I went out for a late lunch. I had a burrito. Mmmm. We walked around in the chilly weather. We caught the 7:40 showing of Waltz with Bashir. I had no idea of the history. The music was powerful. The animation was fitting. It was a beautiful work, tragic because we see some of those images so commonly in news but they don't resonate. There is no story or attachment but this movie creates it. Faceless devastation isn't so much...

We hugged and hobbles back. Got back so late. Now is the time to go to bed early. I have a lot of comic catch up to play this weekend.

five pages!

I've got five pages. I think I'll start thumbnailing. I'm not fond of the writing but I'll work on it as I go. I just need to go go go. I just have all of March to work. Thankfully spring break is in March. Weirdly it is in March.

The student body has lost interest in Student Council. We barely had enough people to get a good vote. We need to generate more interest! Too bad so many people came just for the free food. Comic Club's movie field trip was passed. Movie Club form was turned in and afterwards I helped Daniel with his ASL Club charter. Whoo whoo. I need to email this dude about room stuff for the Modern Dance Club.

I had another of Gabe's murder by sweet cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Uuhhhnn.

Then I bought, cut, and registered my paper for my next print. It will just be 20, 10 of each paper size. And the image will be four colors, five if you include the white. I sure hope to bippy it registers. I helped Robin and Karen a little with their letterpress. I had a late lunch with Karen. Worked on digitizing the layers of my block print so I have a better idea of what comes after the next and which is on top of it.

Somehow I was at school till 6:30. It was pouring down when I rode back and I had not a pair of rain pants in sight. Very soaked on my return. Well not very because my leather jacket kept it off.

Worked on script. Worked on woodblock. Worked worked worked.

I could not have handled Gap Kids and this. No way. How Karen does it, I'll never know.

600th post. Whoo! Course, posting those pieces separately did boost it a little bit.

Anyway, we discussed what odds really mean in math class. Karen and I shared the flask of Billy Tea. No snow today. No one running the light on Burnside.

There was a leadership meeting so I had to hang around at school. No biggie, I had to do important Club Coordinator related things. That was mostly emailing people about club formation and how to reach me and those things. I used the library macs and those things are super glitchy. They barely function as computers. To quote someone else, the library lab is where technology goes to die.

After that, I chilled in the print studio with Robin and Karen. I read from my Mamet book a little.

The leadership meeting was for the appointed people on the council. Karen, Nathan, Diana, Robin, Liz, and myself all received a free lunch with Michael and Rachel and we chatted about the state of things. It was a little above my head but it is cool to see in inner workings. This is where things get created to bring the school together. I'm a part of that! I have power! To create! What have I got myself into?

I carved for the rest of my break. I almost have it done. It is almost ready to print. I sure hope it works out. Tomorrow I aim to do at least 1/3 of it. One color, so that is 8 nice prints.

I loitered around school for a while. I ate a lot of Katie's Oreos so I went to Safeway to replace them. They were half off so I got two things, just to be really nice. Now we have a TON of Oreos. It is weird, I haven't gone food shopping in a while. Gabe keeps us well fed and the pasta and sauce supply is no where near low. It's going good. I need to get apples though.

Just worked on making the refined portraits in class. They look so serious and tough. They also are not the same size...oh well. It will get resolved. I'm still building up the image anyway.

Robin came by to facilitate a roomie agreement between Katie and I. Just a sort of clarification of rules. Robin said our place smelled a little funky.

I aim to clean the place a little. The clutter is really building up.

Karen came by for an episode of House. We are almost done with the season. We will start watching Tudors next. Henry VIII kicking butt. Yeah!!

Weekend! Whoo! This was a long, tiring week.

I actually did fairly well on the math homework. The dice problems tripped a lot of other people up. We moved on to Venn Diagrams and conditional probability. This time I grabbed a seat on the side of the table that actually faces the white board.

Then it was just a matter of killing time till Student Council. I accidentally photocopied way more comic club posters than I really needed. J followed me around while I canvased the school with them. And I followed her while she put up the Illustration Drawing Club posters. Hers are much nicer than mine. Oh well. I ate half a bagel while practicing my little speech.

The election was interesting. I gave my speech and was very nervous. I can't remember half of what I said. Jeremy gave his. We both were running with very different methods. He ended up being asked a lot more specific questions than I and I think he felt he was being ganged up on. I can see how that was. His tone came across as passionate yet negative while mine was positive. We stepped outside and chatted for a bit about Japan and tattoos. We came back in and it was a tie. 12 to 12 with 5 abstaining. He withdrew, deciding he didn't want to be a part of it. I'm the Student Clubs Coordinator. We got more yoga mats! And a piano!

Afterwards I talked to Rachel about my position. I hung out in the print studio a bit with Robin and then Karen and I retired to a lab to work on our digital projects. Mine are slightly scribbly messes but still cool. The critique about them went on for about an hour and a half. Sometimes he gave a demo with the pieces. Not with mine though. Actually I think mine was one of about two that he didn't demo with. Hmmn. After our little break we played around in Corel and he introduced the new assignment (which is to send in ideas for assignments).

Gabe made spicy chicken and rice and fauxconut milk sauce curry stuff. It was really good and the spice cleared my sinus right up. And I had a tall, cool glass of milk with it. I did some sketches of Gabe and Katie playing Mario Kart. Outside of that I spent the night working on my comic and trying to get as much stuff as possible written out. It still isn't enough. I have no clue how to write or even start thinking about writing.

I really wish this was the proper Graphic Novel course.

Snow! More snow! It was snowing when I got up. And it had even stuck a little. To be safe, I opted out of biking to school and walked with Karen. There was no word of cancellation so we trudged on in many many layers.

I got a couple problems wrong with the math work but that was mostly in the tally sections where I included some of the probable outcomes twice. He threw more probability at us, such as the probability of drawing this AND that and with or without replacement. Robin was very sarcastic and the teacher called her out a little. In a silly way. That girl, ooohh.

So after class, Karen showed me how to screen print! She showed me how to apply the emulsion, how to clean the screens, how to expose, how to set up an image to expose, and all that. We did it in two parts, separated by digital painting. It is pretty easy. I should get a screen, whoo! Have screen printing Tuesdays or something.

A guy came in and talked to us about our opinion of the school. He was looking to apply and wanted some student opinions so we gave him ours.

I am going to run for Student Clubs Coordinator. I will be a little chunk of change at the end of the semester. I will help sort out the clubs and all that. I'm up against Jeremy and Melissa (not a Melissa I know, actually I am not even sure if that is her name err). I think I have a good chance. I'm running my campaign with "Accept whatever brings us together". Like, silly clubs are okay as long as people show up. That is the point after all. I have a poster ready to photocopy and post tomorrow. I might do a larger version as well. Get right on it! Yeah!

Digital Painting was super fun. We mostly played around with sketches in photoshop. Played around with layer blending and brushes and the massive Wacom tablets. Mine is so junior compared to these puppies. I am working on a picture of Miss Clock. It is mostly two color shading with minimal fancy techniques. I'll play with it some more on Thursday. For a late snack, Karen and I split some JoeJoes from Safeway. Mmm, warm potato wedges.

After class, Karen showed me how to print. The two MFA's were in there as well. They were doing this quite massive prints. The one I was doing was very tiny. It worked out FABULOUS! I still need to master the application of smooth color but I will get there. I pulled some quality, single color prints. Go me! We missed the streetcar by a couple minutes so we walked back. Our return home became a musical as we sang our thoughts and feelings and ideas in a lovely, tone deaf manner.

I worked on my campaign poster and my woodblock design. The poster, which is more of a flier, is done. The woodblock is readyish. I feel like it needs something...well I'll find out.

I sent out thank you cards tonight. Well I put them in the box drop so they will go out tomorrow.
